Isfahani artisans copycatting Turkish embossing art

TEHRAN -- Managing director of the Isfahan Handicrafts Union said on Wednesday that the Turkish art of embossing has been duplicated by Isfahani artisans.

The artisans have used the Turkish embossing artworks, which were illegally imported into the Isfahan handicrafts market, to reproduce the artworks, Gholamali Feizollahi told the Persian service of the Mehr News Agency.

“Sometime ago, a number of painted embossing handicrafts produced in Turkey were being sold in the shops in Isfahan’s Naqsh-e Jahan Square,” he added.

The handicrafts were removed from the bazaar in order to support domestic handicraft products, he said.

“However, shortly after, we saw that new handicrafts of the same kind were again being sold in the shops,” he stated.

A team of experts at the union conducted an investigation into the matter.

“They discovered that the handicrafts are being produced at workshops in Isfahan based on the original Turkish versions,” Feizollahi said.

The union has asked the artisans to etch their own special trademark in order to remind customers where the handicrafts have been produced.

The artisans plan to combine Iranian and Turkish methods in embossing art, Feizollahi said.
